Morgana as a Feminist Symbol

Being a witch isn't necessarily a bad thing

Although Morgan le Fay’s original message isn’t  developed as a message of critical folk art, the vast interpretations of her and the analysis or her portrayals offer contributions to arguments against subjugation similarly to Kodish’s mission of inclusive and representative folklore. Modern variations of Morgana that are from her perspective or represent her in a less villainous light could be considered examples of the folklore tradition of her being reclaimed to be more empowering and inclusive to women (Fries).

A Powerful and Good Woman? That Can't Be

When observing the many depictions of Morgan le Fay, the trend of villainizing her as a power-hungry sexual deviant is common. An analysis of the representation of Morgana in DC comics notes that her protagonist counterpart is portrayed as more girly and innocent, while the villainess is a monster who stands for agency, sexual  autonomy and power (Allocco 2016). This development of Morgana symbolizes cultural opinions of women. Wanting to be sexually awakened or have power in life are not evil, unless it is a woman doing it.
